The European Banking Authority published a mandate to enforce principles of Strong Customer Authentication (SCA), such as 3D Secure 2.0, and regulate ecommerce transactions in the European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA).

The steps to take advantage of this technology, which offers reduced fraud rates, increased acceptance rates, and overall increased confidence in ecommerce, depends on your checkout implementation as follows.

  • If you are integrated into our Envoy checkout solution, there is no work required on your part.
  • If you are integrated into our Checkout API 2 solution, we strongly urge you to update your implementation to comply with the PSD2 and support Strong Customer Authentication for your international customers by April.

Please read the documentation that contains the implementation details necessary for staying in compliance with the Payment Services Directive (“PSD2”).  For any other additional information, you can access the full text of the directive on the European Commission’s website.
